Alfred Ndlovu,A SouthAfrican Pastor has died of malnutrition after going without food for thirty days following an attempt to emulate Jesus Christ and fast for 40 days and 40 nights. It was reported that the 44-year-old clergyman left home for a nearby bush to have prayers, just like Jesus did. It was learned that Pastor Ndlovu died just a month despite having no history of illness after he had tried to equal or break Jesus Christ’s record of fasting for 40 days. The report said the Pastor was alone in the wilderness and his body was found by a stranger who then called the police. Until his death, the deceased was known by his family and community at large as a very spiritual person whose faith could move mountains and his death surprised everyone, even church members. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to parents and students to be patient over its decision to reposition and save the country’s university system from total collapse. ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday. We recall that the university lecturers had, embarked on strike, demanding for the implementation of the 2009 agreement it entered into with the Federal Government. Ogunyemi said that the strike was not to short-change neither the students nor the parents and other key stakeholders but to save the country’s university system from collapse. A 15-year-old girl has been killed by her 29-year-old boyfriend who stabbed her multiple times. The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has commended the on-going prosecution of the dismissed lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Professor Richard Akindele by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Prof. Akindele was on Thursday remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly demanding sex from his Student, Osagie Monica CPC in a statement signed by the Council’s Director General, Mr Babatunde Irukera, while commending the on-going prosecution, charged authorities of higher institutions in Nigeria to diligently confront sexual harassment and other related conducts within the institutions with a view to ensuring a conducive learning environment for students. Irukera noted that such commitment to sexual harassment cases would restore the reputation of institutions.
